You can deploy Ubuntu 24.04 LTS (Noble Numbat) or 22.04 LTS. Both are long-term support releases, which Canonical maintains for five years.
Can I upgrade from 22.04 to 24.04 in place?
Yes. Take a snapshot, then run do-release-upgrade from the command line. If a package conflict stops the upgrade, restore the snapshot and try again after removing the conflicting package.
Should I install software with APT or Snap?
Use APT for most server packages, since they come from the Ubuntu archive and can be patched automatically with unattended-upgrades. Snap suits tools that are published as snaps, such as MicroK8s, and updates them in the background.
How fast is a new server ready?
