What You Can Run on Arch Linux

Popular ways people use this operating system.

Current compiler toolchains

Build with recent GCC, Clang, Rust and Go releases shortly after they appear upstream, without adding third-party repositories.

Kernel and eBPF work

Test eBPF programs and kernel features that need a recent mainline kernel.

Bare-bones custom servers

Start from a minimal base system and add only the services you choose, so nothing runs that you did not install.

Software from the AUR

Install niche tools from the Arch User Repository with makepkg or an AUR helper, after reviewing each PKGBUILD.

Remote dev environments

Match the Arch setup on your laptop so dotfiles, shells and editors work the same over SSH.

Learning Linux internals

Configure networking, systemd units and the bootloader by hand, with the ArchWiki as your reference.

Arch Linux VPS: Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers to common questions.

Is a rolling release safe for a server?

It can be, if you update often and check the news on archlinux.org before large upgrades. Take a snapshot before each pacman -Syu so you can roll back a bad update.

How do I update Arch Linux?

Run pacman -Syu to upgrade the whole system in one step. Arch does not support partial upgrades, so avoid syncing the package database without upgrading everything.

Can I use the AUR on a VPS?

Yes. AUR packages are built from user-submitted PKGBUILD scripts, so read each one before building, and run makepkg as a normal user.

How fast is a new server ready?

boots.

Can I upgrade my plan later?

Yes. You can move to a larger plan from the control panel. Your data and IP address stay the same.

Is there a contract or setup fee?

No. Plans are billed monthly or yearly with no setup fee, and you can cancel at any time.

Which operating systems can I install?

Ubuntu, Debian, AlmaLinux, Rocky Linux, CentOS Stream, Arch Linux, openSUSE, RouterOS and Windows Server, or any OS from your own ISO.

Is DDoS protection included?

Yes. Every server sits behind always-on DDoS filtering at no extra cost.
