What You Can Run on Debian GNU/Linux

Popular ways people use this operating system.

PostgreSQL and MariaDB servers

Run database servers on a lean base system so more of the plan's memory goes to buffers and caches.

Self-hosted mail

Host Postfix, Dovecot and Rspamd on a stable release where package versions stay fixed and only security fixes arrive.

Minimal container hosts

Start from a small install and add only Docker or Podman, which keeps the host easy to audit and patch.

DNS and resolver services

Run BIND, Unbound or PowerDNS on a quiet system with very few background services competing for resources.

Free hosting panels

Install HestiaCP, ISPConfig or Virtualmin, which support Debian, to manage websites, mail and DNS from a browser.

Team apps like Nextcloud and Gitea

Host file sharing, Git and chat for a team on a release where routine updates rarely change how services behave.

Debian GNU/Linux VPS: Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers to common questions.

Should I choose Debian 12 or Debian 11?

Debian 12 (Bookworm) is the newer of the two releases we offer and ships Linux 6.1 LTS. Pick Debian 11 (Bullseye) only when an application still requires it.

How do I upgrade to the next Debian release?

Take a snapshot, change the release name in your APT sources, then run apt update and apt full-upgrade. Read the release notes for that version first, as they list known issues.

Why are Debian package versions older than upstream?

Debian stable fixes package versions at release and afterwards ships only security and important bug fixes. If you need a newer version of one tool, check the backports repository before adding third-party sources.

How fast is a new server ready?

boots.

Can I upgrade my plan later?

Yes. You can move to a larger plan from the control panel. Your data and IP address stay the same.

Is there a contract or setup fee?

No. Plans are billed monthly or yearly with no setup fee, and you can cancel at any time.

Which operating systems can I install?

Ubuntu, Debian, AlmaLinux, Rocky Linux, CentOS Stream, Arch Linux, openSUSE, RouterOS and Windows Server, or any OS from your own ISO.

Is DDoS protection included?

Yes. Every server sits behind always-on DDoS filtering at no extra cost.
